Brazilian educational institution Fundacao Getulio Vargas has announced that it will be offering a Master’s Degree in Economics, with a major focus on cryptofinance. The program is slated to launch next semester and is being touted as the first cryptofinance degree in the post-graduate level in the country.
Other universities in Brazil are already on the bandwagon, offering some courses covering cryptocurrencies, but so far, there has not been anything like the program Fundacao Getulio Vargas is going to offer.
Program coordinator Ricardo Rochman says, “It’s a market that lacks a lot of qualified people. We have economic and financial foundations within cryptofinances that are worth discussing, researching and teaching”. Hence the addition to the university’s curriculum.
In addition to the upcoming cryptofinance degree program, students are taking their own steps to explore the niche. A combination of “student group and junior company”, Blockchain Insper was founded seven months ago. The entity currently has 23 members.
Estadaõ reports: “Students are divided into research teams in the areas of Finance, Technology and Business. There are also departments that simulate business areas such as Marketing, Strategy, Content and Events. Everyone participates in both the research area and the management.”
As opposed to the post-graduate degree Fundacao Getulio Vargas is going to offer, Blockchain Insper is focused more on undergraduates.
20-year-old economics student Felipe Santos says, “We thought we could create a hub that facilitates entry for all students and has a bias of innovation that sets us apart from a junior company. Our vision is to empower for really new things”.
In the future, the students plan to offer consulting services.
