HTC has entered the blockchain industry with an announcement that is sure to change the landscape. The smartphone manufacturer released an official statement about the HTC Exodus, which is being touted as the world’s first native blockchain-powered smartphone.
This announcement was made prior to the unveiling of HTC’s new smartphone, the HTC U12, on May 23.
HTC Exodus will feature built-in hardware specifically designed to support cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications (DApps). The smartphone will also have a universal native wallet.
The system will inherently support existing protocols including Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, and Dfinity, among others. The company plans to expand its support to other networks in the future, with the aim of providing compatibility with the entire blockchain ecosystem. With that in mind, HTC has dubbed the Exodus as the “Switzerland of Protocols”.
Additionally, the smartphone manufacturer wants each phone to serve as a node, which leads to “true decentralization”. Part of their goal is to “double and triple the number of nodes of Ethereum and Bitcoin”.
With the new smartphone, HTC is set to capture a whole new market – individuals who want easy, centralized access to their cryptocurrencies.
